It’s a new year and we took the opportunity to look at the number of fines issued during 2018 and 2019.

Contrary to what many believes, the number of fines is substantial across Europe, and the frequency is inclining.

During all of 2018 only 13 fines where issued, compared to 60 fines in Q4 2019.

Also the total amount of fines is surprising, with more than €400 000  000 issued.

We believe 2020 will be a very interesting year. If the trend continues we will see a huge number of fines, and earlier record amounts will be surpassed.

The question is if this will be enough for Europe’s organization to wake up an intensify their compliance with GDPR.
